Our story

A veteran’s idea for more time together outdoors.

Vets On Board Network began with founder Robert “Bob” Smith. During his rehabilitation in 2015, conversations with fellow veterans often returned to time spent fishing, boating, being outdoors, and sharing experiences with others.

Those conversations shaped a simple idea: create more opportunities for veterans to spend meaningful time together on and around the water. Bob restored Hooligan, a 40-foot 1949 former Coast Guard cutter, and began building a broader network of experiences, resources, and community support.

Today, the organization is developing that vision across Palm Beach County and South Florida through community-based opportunities and partnerships.
